Wink Mesa Boogie or ENGL?

Hi, I'm thinking of either getting an ENGL Invader 150 or a Mesa Boogie amp but am not sure which Mesa amp I should go for.

It seems the Dual/Triple Rectifier series is popular with Metal players but before I go for one, I'd like to hear opinions about other models. Any comments are welcome, thanks.

Oh, and needless to say, I need a high gain amp for Death Metal.

I've got a Mesa Dual Rec. I like it. Works very well for metal. I have never played an ENGL, though, so I can't say how they compare.

Thanks, Dyldo! Nice nick!

I think I'm gonna go for the Triple Rectifier instead of the ENGL. There's a lot of features on ENGL amps which simply don't appeal to me (sorry ENGL users!)

Triple Recs are beasts. Are you able to play on one of each before you purchase? Or do you not have any near to try?

Well, that's a great question. To tell you the truth, Mesa Boogie amps aren't available here so I can't try one. I'd have to order a head and cab by mailorder.

I've seen a number of video demos and reviews, though. I'm also reading the manual and I know Pat of Cannibal Corpse uses one so it should be good enough for me. And, like I said, I don't like some features on ENGL amps.

But yeah, ideally one has to try an amp before buying it! I may go for an ENGL afterall even though I'm not too interested. At least I can try them!

Neither will disappoint you. I'm partial to ENGL's, but both are top notch

Typically, the most desirable rectos are the 2 channel Dual Rectifiers or the Dual Rectifiers Trem-O-Verb. Triple Rectos don't quite have the same sound.

That being said, personally I would DEFINITELY go for an ENGL over a Recto. However, I would rather get a Savage than an Invader.

Remember that for any typical application, watts are irrelevant. Go for what YOU think sounds best. Listen to clips. Browse forums and reviews.

Agreed on that last part, but make sure when you're listening to clips they are dry clips that have not been EQ'd or compressed so you can get a better understanding of the amp's "truer" sound.
