The fairest summer

And the skies were blue
Fairest summer ever known
Sweet lily blossom fragrance
Mingled with scent of
Power and mortal glory
Headed for the precipice
Join hands all friends in cataclysm
And thread the world's ending, the last wiener waltz

In the shadow of your fellow man
Do you believe in the power of life
Hearken to matters of state
Or, do you believe in the power of lies

A world divided in all its time
In an embrace of metal and steel
Its dreams a shard in rapids
Greed ascends and the horizon disappears
A world divided in all its time
In an embrace of metal and steel
Its dreams a shard in rapids
Are there blue skies
Beyond smoke of burning humanity

Peace showed them its face
But they showed that all the ways
Do not lead back to Rome
So where did the road go rulers of old?
Power and mortal glory
Headed for the precipice
Join hands all friends in cataclysm
And thread the world's ending, the last wiener waltz

A world divided in all its time
In an embrace of metal and steel
Its dreams a shard in rapids
Does it matter?
What's left to be seen, after the last, wiener waltz

Power and mortal glory
Headed for the precipice
But first we'll take a dance along it
In iron, blood and fire!

Epilouge:

The struggle to turn the wheel leave us stranded, lost
With fading memories of all we won
An olden poet's truth that a heritage now turned from twelve to one
'Cause thirteen is no lucky number or so 'tis always said to been
So descendants just feel free
Borrow this line and carve
On the highest of now empty towers
Here's a race of many promises
That never even reached, its teens

Okay, I have to ask. What is a weiner waltz? I've got images of Oscar Mayer and a guys' locker room shenanigans in my head and I don't think either of those are what's being referred to, but I suppose it could be referring to the latter as one overpowering another metaphorically.

What is this referring to? I was thinking clock until the second line.

Honestly I do not know. But after all, I didn't write weiner waltz anywhere.
WIEner waltz on the other hand is a type of waltz generally associated with Habsburger-era Vienna.

It's a double reference - partly directly to a clock, in the sense that it always goes around in the same loop and every now and then any progress made is reset and nullified.
The poet in particular, irritatingly enough I can't recall his name, but let's call him Jim:
When Karl XII (the guy who among other things whopped some serious ass at Poltava) of Sweden died he was suceeded by Fredrik I. And say what you like about Fredrik, but he wasn't of the line of kings who had led Sweden when it became one of the largest and most powerful nations in Europe and many mark the end of that era with him. Not least Jim, who sardonically noted that "So now it was, that a heritage turned from twelve to one."

lol Oh my! Well,I guess I had a bit of that way off! What a difference letter arrangement can make as well as knowing of a waltz by that name. Glad I questioned it though because your explanation of the history behind it brought a lot more life to it. Appreciated.

Even before you commented I thought the sound of this was quite good and that it was following a storyline, but I wasn't sure what story it was.

Is this a piece you're performing?

I'm not sure what do with it yet, though I am of a mind to put it to metal and I already have a few ideas.

I've been studying the first world war for a while, especially the causes of it and this basically is the condensation of that reading, along with the feeling that, in all likelyhood, it will happen again.

I'm generally not into poetry (or even lyrics), but I really liked this. I sort of got hooked after the first few lines and couldn't stop reading, which is a good sign!

Unfortunately my ignorance in matters of poetry means I can't offer any in-depth analysis or criticism haha, but as the old saying goes "I don't know much about art, but I knows what I likes!".

If you ever put this to music I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for the comment, always nice to hear. Yea, I'm working on the music for it right now, but I have the feeling that it will be some time yet before I reach something I'm satisfied with.

Happy days, looking forward to it I know how you feel about wanting to be satisfied with your work, I'm still working on riffs I started writing 8 years ago haha.
