Chuck Schuldiner scale

hello people. I'm trying Death solos but I don't know any scale they used. Any suggestions.

Chuck uses a lot of harmonic minor, and also Phrygian and Locrian, methinks. And some Japanese-type stuff. In Crystal Mountain, maybe not intentionally of course, he uses a Joe Satriani-esque trick where he misses out the 7th of the minor/harmonic minor scale, and only introduces it when he needs a particular feel. He was noted for his rebellion to theory, but scales he must have known.

There are lots of threads on this. I'd go look them up.
