I would suggest getting triggers, they work good for black metal. Are you looking to get another Tama snare?

Yeah, I would go with something like a 5 or 6 by 14. You should go to some music stores and test some out, see what type of wood sounds best to you, stuff like that. Derek Roddy has one of the best sounding snares I've ever heard, it's a Sonor but I don't know which type.

It just says 14 by 5 or whatever, not the specific drum name.

5 by 14 should work well

any 5 by 14 snare should work well for black metal at a tight tuning with medium-loose snares. A 5 by 14 Black Panther hammered phosphor bronze snare would be my recommendation if you want to go crazy and cost is not an option. I think derek roddy uses a 13" sonor wood snare but I am not sure.

yo. my firist post.

I play grind/DM, I'm currently using a Pork Pie Lil Squealer as my main snare. it's 12x5, 8 ply maple. I have it tuned pretty tight, lots of pop, and it works great. I love it....and it's relatively cheap compared to other Pork Pie products.

I like Pork Pie's stuff alot. High quality, unique look, and stylish. Unforntunetly, they're stuff isn't cheap. Eventually, I'd like to get a full Pork Pie set, I just need to save a few thousand first.

I use a Mapex snare 6-1/2" x 14" which is 6.1mm 7-ply North American 100% maple. Well I am now trying to figure out how to tune this bastard up right. I don't like playing with my heads tight, in fact I'm pretty sure it's bad for your wrists. Also Carl-Michael "Aggressor" Eide, is fucking amazing.

The sound Frost get's would be hard to define. He uses high end equipment in the studio, at least on the newer albums.

I didn't know that. I use a Pro M kit, definitely sweet. There was a review I read from their website I think explaining the recording process and he was talking about having a bunch of cymbal's and shit brought in to get just the right sound. Frost is one of my favorite drummer's btw.....
